Agenda Point Action Point
1) Apologies
As above
An introduction to Westfield Park Residents Association (WPRA) and the Agenda was given by the chair and new members welcomed.
2) Association Priorities
i) Adoption of Westfield Park
Various options were discussed on the best way forward to ‘make some noise’ to help with the adoption of the estate by the council:
a) Draft letter for all residents to print and post.
HB to contact Delme Bowen & arrange a meeting to establish the facts behind the adoption to date and what a letter would need to cover to gain maximum impact e.g. Who to address it to, best format etc.
b) Web petition
c) ‘On foot’ petition
Various members of the association volunteered to help canvas the estate - Not all residents are aware of the impact of non-adoption, so this would need to include a statement of the History of the Adoption so all canvassers are comfortable and giving correct information.
ii) Reclaiming our Estate!
Suggestion to Invite Ely Garden Village to give a talk at the next meeting to share their experiences was thought a good idea
Safety on the roundabout – Can we get a 20mph sign and Children Playing sign?
Grass Cutting on the land at entrance to estate. Mr & Mrs Farrell suggested that phoning Delme direct & the council would get it done when necessary. However other members also discussed setting up a small task group to tackle such issues ourselves. Also including the children to help them get involved. It was decided to at least begin with a litter pick Sunday 28th June at 11am. Meet at the roundabout and bring marigolds & bags in case Penny can’t get equipment from the community council in time.
Graffiti ME suggested anti graffiti paint that her school uses and will investigate further
iii) Social Event
Ideas were invited and various ideas were discussed and it was agreed that the first event to raise awareness and some funds should be a Tabletop Sale to take place on the field and to include:
Stalls, Local ice cream van, Fire Service etc rounded off with a possible treasure hunt. A sub group to help organise was agreed as: Sue Evans, Colin Pritchard, Young Persons Reps and Mr & Mrs Haines.
3) Any other business
Notice Board
PH stated the Community council have progressed with this and are looking at a spot on the corner of Ramsons Way/Celadine Road – the land is privately owned and the owners are being approached for consent.
Horses
Are back! The smell is atrocious apart from the nuisance. Please ring 101 to report any sightings. HB thinks she has spotted the gap in the fence where they are gaining access again and volunteered her husband to fix it.
ME commented on the cruelty of the conditions they are being kept in and is going to look into contacting some Animal Welfare Charities to see if anything can be done to help them.
Commercial Vans being parked on roads, looking unsightly, making parking/turning difficult and creating a hazard to young children playing/crossing roads. Mr Haines thought there maybe a clause in the Freehold prohibiting them but PH stated this was only for the first 5 years. Different options to tackle this problem was discussed and it was decided in the first instance, to put a notice on the website asking for due consideration.
Website The website is up and running and holds lots of information. CB encouraged members to use it as much as possible, if we can get enough traffic there maybe a possibility of some sponsorship from utilities companies for example. Also, please use the forum!! And, encourage young people to use it and can ask CB for anything they wish to be added.
CB also asked for moderators for the young Peoples areas of the website. ME & HT agreed to do this.
